Made by Ayra šŸ™‚ I’m going to post this to the magnetic chalkboard in my home office as a reminder to keep on keepin’ on.

Some of the goodies I sent to Ayra. Snacks for study breaks and movie nights, stickers to add to her daily journal writing efforts, a holiday photo card of my husband and me…

Using a template and paper from Flow magazine, I made a rectangular envelope and placed a few different tea bags and coffee singles inside. My sister and I made these sweet tags in a stamping workshop last year. // I love this quote printed by Elise. It makes for an inspiring card or wall print.

This postcard is my favorite of the enclosures. <3

January was my first month participating in the Lovely Letters project. I heard about it through Esther’s blog, and she directed me to Claudia, who now oversees the program. Basically, people volunteer to take part in a letter writing and creative goody exchange via the good old-fashioned postal mail. I’ve enjoyed several different pen pal exchanges over the years and love the idea of keeping this ritual alive and kicking. Besides, who doesn’t like giving and receiving a handwritten letter filled with stories and encouraging words, along with a few treats tucked in?!

I was paired with Ayra. We hit it off quickly through email, chatting about where we’ve been and where we are headed. We talked about where we grew up and began to discuss college life, since she started her second semester recently. Although I graduated over a decade ago (that can’t be right?!?), I have many great memories of my college years and oftentimes it seems like it was just yesterday. I plan on sharing some of the ups and downs of those days with Ayra as she navigates through this experience. We both seem to have sunny dispositions (though it can be tough to tell for sure through the interwebs!), so I have a feeling there will be a wealth of encouragement and mutual understanding exchanged amongst the two of us. It’s always good to have someone like us in your corner. šŸ˜‰

I consider my brief time with Lovely Letters a success even just one month in, and here’s why: I met someone new, began to develop a friendship, and flexed the creative and thoughtful muscles in the act of letter-writing and treat-gathering/making. I am looking forward to what February will bring.
